In today's interconnected world, businesses operate on a global scale, necessitating collaboration across borders and compliance with various data residency regulations. Microsoft 365 Multi-Geo is a powerful solution offered by Microsoft that empowers enterprises to expand their global reach while ensuring data compliance and maintaining a seamless user experience. In this blog post, we will delve into the details of Microsoft 365 Multi-Geo, exploring its features, benefits, and how it can enable a customer’s organisation to thrive in a globalized digital landscape.
The Need for Microsoft 365 Multi-Geo
As businesses expand across borders, they encounter challenges related to data residency, compliance, and user experience. Microsoft 365 Multi-Geo addresses these challenges by allowing organizations to store their data in specific geographic locations, enabling compliance with regional data regulations while ensuring optimal performance for users worldwide.
Key Features and Capabilities
Microsoft 365 Multi-Geo offers several essential features and capabilities to facilitate global expansion:
a. Multi-Geo Capabilities: With Multi-Geo, organisations can extend their Microsoft 365 tenant to multiple geographic locations, enabling the creation of user accounts and the storage of data in each region.
b. Data Residency Compliance: By storing data in the appropriate geographic regions, Multi-Geo helps organisations comply with data residency requirements imposed by various countries and regions.
c. Consistent User Experience: Multi-Geo ensures a consistent user experience by allowing users to access their data from the nearest data center, reducing latency and improving performance.
d. Single Global Directory: Despite having data stored across multiple regions, Multi-Geo maintains a single global directory, simplifying administration and collaboration across the organisation.
Available purchasing options under the New Commerce Experience (NCE)
From 1 June 2023, Microsoft 365 Multi-Geo is available as a yearly subscription as well as a 30-day Trial:
- One-year subscription paid annual upfront.
- One-year subscription paid monthly.
- One-month trial subscription.
Since the offer is only available to purchase under the NCE, it is therefore only available for commercial customers, and not to Charity and Academic customers at this point.
Important Considerations:
CSP partners must purchase a quantity of Multi-Geo licenses equal to or greater than 5% of their customer's total eligible Microsoft 365 seats.
So, if you have 1000 users on Microsoft 365 E3, for example, then a minimum quantity of 50 Multi-Geo licenses is always required for eligibility. When the count of users on these Microsoft 365 E3 licenses increases, the Multi-Geo quantity must also increase.
Multi-Geo Capabilities in Microsoft 365 is a user-level add-on license. You need a license for each user that you want to host in a Satellite Geography location. You can add more licenses over time as you add users in Satellite Geography locations.
Microsoft 365 Multi-Geo is available as an add-on to the following Microsoft 365 subscription plans:
- Microsoft 365 F1, F3, E3, E5
- Office 365 F3, E1, E3, E5
- Exchange Online P1, P2
- OneDrive P1, P2
- SharePoint Online P1, P2
Microsoft 365 Multi-Geo empowers enterprises with the ability to expand their global presence while addressing data residency compliance and optimizing user experience. By leveraging the power of Multi-Geo, organizations can confidently navigate the complexities of a globalized world, ensuring data compliance, enhancing collaboration, and achieving business success on a global scale.
