MEET THE WINE EXPERT
Charles has been at De Grendel since the very beginning of winemaking on the Durbanville farm in 2005. There he got the great pleasure of designing and building his cellar. A lifelong student of wine with 35 years of experience in the South African industry, Charles has won multiple local and international accolades. He is passionate about learning his craft. Charles is also passionate about mentoring the next generation of South African winemakers. To date, he has mentored 13 different protégés. He is presently the Cape Winemakers Guild member who has groomed the most mentees in the Protégé Programme. This exceptional winemaker, in his words, is obsessed with producing quality wines with character and personality.

MEET OUR MASTER CHEF
Fortunato Massone (Forti) is one of South Africa's most talented chefs. He does understand the focus on food quality and the balance of giving our customer a real experience to remember.
Fortunato grew up in Johannesburg where his father was a very well-known chef in several famous restaurants. He founded the dynasty of Giovanni’s restaurants in 1976 in Sunnyside in Pretoria and when they moved to Pretoria, Fortunato obviously worked in the restaurant all through his school and varsity career.
He went to Wits and then taught at Wits and at a Pretoria High School before joining the family business full time in 1993 at Giovanni’s at the Carousel. Fortunato and his father opened Ritrovo Ristorante in March 1996 and the rest as they say is history.
Ritrovo became SA’s most award-winning restaurant over 23 years earning over 60 local and international restaurant awards in the period. They opened Forti Grill and Bar and sold Ritrovo in April 2017, and his father retired.
All the way from Tshwane, Forti’s is synonymous with great food, amazing wines and a general ambience that makes any dinner, one to remember.
